Every Dog is Different

Every dog is different. In training, what works for one dog may not work for another. In life, a new dog will be different from a previous dog. Which is why it’s so important to be adaptable and open to doing things differently when you need to.

When we use techniques that usually work with other dogs but they aren’t working with your dog, we adjust our methods and figure out what does work – without hurting the dog or harming the relationship between you and your dog. For example, many dogs respond really well to treats. Notice I said “many”, not “all”. Dogs who aren’t very food-motivated need a different approach. That might be pets, or verbal praise, or a tug toy, or a ball… Adapt to the situation, and find out what does most motivate the dog.

Training your dog should be fun for both of you. Having fun together is part of what helps build a strong, solid, lifelong relationship. If you aren’t sure about how to start that process, give me a call. I’m happy to teach you. 🙂

Have a great weekend, and remember to stay calm and lead on.
