Meet Sprocket, a 3-year-old labradoodle who had a very traumatic life before he was taken in by ALPL (Alberta Lost Pet Locator and Rescue Society).
Sprocket’s previous life experiences with both humans and other dogs has turned him into a highly reactive dog with no confidence, no trust in anything or anyone, and a deeply-rooted insecurity about himself and the world in general.
Becky, ALPL’s Vice President, encouraged Audrey, Sprocket’s new mom, to reach out to me for help, which she did a couple of weeks ago. We spoke on the phone for over an hour about Sprocket’s life and behavior, and in a few more weeks, we’ll be starting Sprocket’s rehabilitation journey with a 3-day assessment and modification workshop.
Due to the heavy impact of Sprocket’s former life on his mental and emotional state, I expect we’re going to be working together for at least the next few months. This is going to be an incredible journey not only for Sprocket, but for his humans, too. I’m honored to have been chosen to be part of it. I hope you’ll join us on our journey as we work to help this sweet, beautiful boy gain confidence, learn how to trust, and eventually become his very best as a calmer, happier, more relaxed dog.
Have a great day, and remember to stay calm and lead on.
It is wonderful that you are taking on a dog like Sprocket. These difficult cases need your help the most.

You certainly never shy away from challenging cases! However, I am so glad that this family found you, as it may very well be the greatest gift they’ll ever give to Sproket.
He is a beautiful boy and it breaks my heart to think that he has had such a distressing start to life. However, just like many dogs before him, something has guided him to you and this will be his salvation.
Please keep us updated – the work you do fascinates me!
Fonzie and Amber (your former pupils!) say hello.

I know, right? Over the past almost 10 years, I’d say probably 98% of my canine clients have been like this boy. I feel deeply privileged to have been chosen to help this boy; it’s going to be a long journey, and I think his transformation to a calmer, more relaxed, happier, more confident life is going to be pretty astonishing, even to me. I hope so, anyway.
I will definitely be updating as I can – and please give Fonzie and Amber lovies from me. 🙂 ♥
