Maintaining the Training

If you want to have a well-mannered, respectful, calm dog all the time, you have to be committed to maintaining the training – every day, several times a day. Even 10 to 15 minutes as often as possible throughout the day helps keep your dog happy, relaxed, calm, and fulfilled. Here are a couple of ideas to get you started:

  • While you wait for your kettle to boil, practice some basics like sit, down, and stay. It’s only a few minutes, and your dog will be happy for having had some time with you.
  • While you’re cooking or washing dishes, practice β€œplace” [or whatever cue you use]. Have the dog go to their place spot, go back to what you were doing, then return to them with a reward for staying. This doesn’t interfere with what you’re doing, and your dog will be happy for having had some time with you.

There are a multitude of ways you can maintain your dog’s training in your daily routine. Be creative, and make it fun for both you and your dog. Even just a few minutes at a time can make a big difference to your dog’s overall happiness and well-being.

If you have other ideas like the ones above, please be sure to comment. After all, sharing is caring, right?

Have a great day, and remember to stay calm and lead on.

    • Hi Thomas. I hear you; I forget, too – life just gets so busy, sometimes, that it takes over everything else. The important thing is that we make it one of our top priorities; that way, we won’t be so quick to forget. πŸ™‚
