I use food, toys, a clicker, touch [e.g. petting], and verbal praise as rewards. I correct with my voice [e.g. “no”], with a quick but pain-free snap of the leash [when the dog is on leash], or with physical removal of the dog when correction or redirection is not stopping the dog’s unwanted behavior [e.g. nipping or biting during play with another dog].
I do not use prong collars, e-collars, shock collars, or any other similar tools to correct unwanted behaviors.
I do not yell or use physical intimidation of any kind.
I do not force submission through pinning [also called “alpha rolling”].
I do not use touch [e.g. using my fingers as “teeth” to deliver a corrective “nip” to the dog].
