There are five questions you need to ask yourself before you bring a dog into your life:
Do you have the time and physical ability for consistent training and exercise?
Have you researched the breed you’re interested in? Does it fit with your lifestyle?
Are you able to handle the financial responsibilities of pet ownership?
Are you able and willing to both invest and participate in teaching a dog how you want them to be?
What are your expectations – why do you want a dog?
Before you bring a dog into your life – especially if you’ve never had one – ask yourself these five questions, and make sure that you’re 100% certain of your answers. Dogs are a lifetime commitment; whether they’re working, playing, or just chilling out, they need calm, confident leadership 100% of the time. You cannot be wishy-washy or hesitant with a dog, regardless of their breed.
If you aren’t sure you have it in you to be a strong leader, or, if you’ve answered “no” to any of the questions above, please do the right thing: don’t bring a dog into your life.
Have a great day, and remember to stay calm and lead on.
