Little Solo – a 2-months-old Border Collie/Blue Heeler mix – is a rambunctious little firecracker with loads of energy, very high intelligence, and tons of personality. Today, his owner, Courtnay, and her dad met up with Glimmer and me so he could start learning how to be polite around other dogs. Glimmer did a great job of using her body language to teach Solo what energy level and body language is and is not acceptable.
We also introduced Solo to some new exercises to help build trust and respect between him and Courtnay, as he’s been using her as a chewing outlet despite her efforts to correct and redirect him. She is the only family member with which he practices this behavior.
We worked together for an hour and a half. In that time, Solo learned to be calm and polite when he wanted to approach Glimmer to smell her, and he practiced very nice manners with Courtnay, her dad, and me. By the time we were finished, both he and Glimmer were tuckered out and ready for a nap. 😀
Stay tuned for more fun adventures with Solo and Glimmer. Have a great day, and remember to stay calm and lead on. 🙂
