Training doesn’t end when the course is finished. It’s an ongoing course for the life of the dog. This is important not only for the dog owner to recognize, it’s also important to the health and well-being of the dog. Keeping your dog up to date on basics reinforces the foundations of trust, loyalty, and respect, helps drain out mental and physical energy, improves confidence, and so much more. Like I always say, when it comes to working a dog, “A tired dog is a happy dog.”
To prove that, I’m putting my dog Glimmer into a Basics Bootcamp. Over the course of the entire year, we’re going to be working on basics, she’s going to be reconditioned and re-socialized to everything from riding calmly in the car, to other dogs, busy stores, dealing with crowds, working on the treadmill, and more. By the this time next year, she will be a much happier, more confident, completely balanced girl.
I will be documenting her progress here and posting pictures and videos. Stay tuned!
Have a great day, everyone, and remember: Stay calm and lead on.
