IO Exam, Prep Day 3

Preparation for Glimmer’s IO exam continues… as does the high heat we’re experiencing. Forecast highs ranging between 28ºC and 30ºC for the remainder of this week and continuing into the weekend have raised concerns for Glimmer’s health. The exam is expected to run anywhere from 60 to 90 minutes; working her under these kinds of temperatures puts her at serious risk of heat exhaustion. So, the exam has been rescheduled for next week with the hope for safer, more moderate temperatures.

Today, I’m going to continue working Glimmer around temptations, focusing on distance place, distance recall, and other aspects related to this difficult course. Throughout the day, I’m also going to be working her on various heel positions, walk-around exercises, stand and stand-stay positions, and more. We will be doing these exercises every day, several times throughout each day, until she has them mastered and she can easily perform them on exam day.

I’ve been asked what will be next after she passes the IO exam. I’ve been giving that some thought… but for now, I’m focusing on helping Glimmer achieve this current goal. I’ll talk about what’s next for her after she passes this exam.

Have a great day, and remember: Stay calm and lead on.
